  • 1-¾ cups sugar, divided
  • ½ cup water
  • 1-⅔ cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ½ cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 3 eggs
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
